Dy CM Kavlekar and management seen at laying of foundation stone

Foundation stone for new building of Don Bosco College of Agriculture, Sulcorna (DBCA) was laid by the Dy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture Shri Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar with a traditional arati on January 21, 2020 at Don Bosco Agro-ed Complex, Sulcorna.

Vice Provincial of Salesian Panjim Province Fr. Clive Telles, Rector Fr. Bernardino, Director DBCA Fr. Allwyn D’Souza and Asst Director Fr. Anisio Mota blessed the foundation stone.

DBCA Principal Dr Suresh Kunkalikar, welcomed the Dy Chief Minister with a memento and a flower bouquet.
Addressing the gathering Dy Chief Minister Kunalikar said, being from a agrarian family, he was happy to be entrusted with the ministry of Agriculture. Goa should become an organic hub and I am pleased to see organic farming is the focus of this college, he added.

He assured his support and help in carrying forward the construction of the new college building and providing necessary facilities for the benefit of students and people of Goa. The minister also assured of his support to help agriculture graduates to secure gainful employment in Goa.

Thanking the management and staff of DBCA for their contribution to education in Agriculture, He suggested that M.Sc. in Agriculture could be started in Goa to accommodate B.SC agricultural graduates who wish to pursue post-graduation.

The minister also released Farmer’s mobile app developed by DBCA college to provide technical advice to over 150 farmers already in the loop. Later he released a book on Goat Farming published by the college and distributed scholarships to meritorious students.

Later Kavlekar visited the different labs of the college that studied agronomy, entomology, plant pathology, organic formulation and mushroom unit. He also visited the dairy, poultry, goatery, cattle paddock, vermicomposting unit, organic okra and vegetable plots and was happy to know the procedure of how organic concepts are adopted to get organic certification in future.
