Covid-19 Pandemic not just brought about a life threatening virus but also fear, anxiety and deprivation to the people all across India. Thousands of people overnight especially belonging to daily wage earning labouers were deprieved of food and proper shelter as a result of the lock-down’s stringent measures by the government of India to contain the spread of the dreaded virus.

The Development Office (DO) of the Salesian Province of Panjim, Konkan Development Society (KDS) in collaboration with its sister concern social development offices and Non-profit Organisations (NGO’S) from the states of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra reached out to poor and deprived individuals and families with food supplies in Kudal, Maharashtra, Sankeshwar in Karnataka and all across the state of Goa.

KDS in collaboration with its Childline Office, reached out with food and other essentials like rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, lentils, sugar, soya chunks, soaps, onions and potatoes to stranded people in Tiswadi, Bardez, Salcete, and Mormugao Talukas of the Goa state.

Director KDS Fr. Francis Silveira said, the generous contributions of our benefactors was the backbone for the successful carrying out the reach-out programme to the most remote and isolated places.

Asst. Director KDS Fr. Lawrence said, the outreach was possible because of the cooperation of the selfless staff and the dedication to serve the poor and deprived of our society. Besides distributing food and necessary items of daily use, KDS in collaboration with like minded Community Service Organizations, supplied raw material which was cooked and served to the needy, he said. As of April 15, 2020, around 2900 needy families and individuals benefited from the outreach organized by KDS he added.

With the extension in the dates of the lock down, KDS has resolved to continue in reaching out to the most vulnerable of the society. Come, join us in our joyful service to the needy says Fr. Lawrence extending the invitation to everyone.
