Poster of webinar on Hydroponics at DBCA Goa

Don Bosco College of Agriculture (DBCA) Sulcorna, Goa successfully conducted an International webinar on, Opportunities and Entrepreneurship in Hydroponics on April 15, 2021.

University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Vice Chancellor, Dr. M. B. Chetti, was the Chief Guest for the webinar. In his introductory lecture, he elaborated on the adaptation of hydroponics to meet the global issue of the future food demand in corresponding to rise in population and reduced land availability.

Shyam Bhadane, pioneer in hops production by hydroponics in India, shared his rich experience in cultivating strawberry and vegetable using hydroponics technology.

Dr. Vivek Bhat, spoke on the importance of nutrition in hydroponics for better growth and taste of hydroponically grown vegetables and fruits. He also cautioned about several factors in hydroponics.

Greenscapes, Co- founder, Meera Panakkal a master’s degree holder in biotechnology, shared her practical experiences and provided details on different methods and technologies available in hydroponics.

Greenscapes, Founder, Adarsh Baheti, in continuation to Panakkal’s talk, provided a brief info on feasibility and cost of different hydroponics systems. He debriefed about the economics of the indoor and outdoor setup and provided cashflow on the same.

DBCA, Principal, Dr. Suresh Kunkalikar, in his concluding remarks thanked the chief guest, speakers, participants, organizers and the college staff for their support in making the webinar a success. He concluded by urging the students and participants to opt for hydroponics as a career and help society in getting healthy food.
