DBC students donating blood at blood donation camp

Blood costs nothing to give and yet can be extremely valuable for someone in need, to promote this value in students, Don Bosco College (DBC), Panjim organised a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with the Goa Medical College (GMC) Blood Bank, Bambolim, on May 2, 2022.

The camp was inaugurated by Director, Father Joaquim Lobo, who welcomed Dr Sanjay Korgaokar and his team with roses in the presence of Principal Dr Cedric Silveira and event coordinators, Anaita D’costa and Alisha Souza. Father Lobo said, its importance to give blood for the benefit of oneself and those in need, and so there is a need for such camps to restart once again.

The GMC team was active throughout the day and did not tire despite the long lines of people coming in to donate. The camp saw over 40 students coming forward to donate, although a few were found ineligible much to their disappointment. The teachers of the college also actively participated along with others from in and around Panjim bringing the total tally to around 65 donors.

The camp concluded at 1.00pm with Principal, Dr Silveira, proposing the vote of thanks. He extended his gratitude to the doctors, technicians and staff from GMC as well as to the organizing team and congratulated the participants for coming forward to donate, while appreciating the hard work put in by all the volunteers in making the camp a huge success.

There was a sense of satisfaction on the part of those who came forward to donate, many of whom were first-time donors and felt proud after doing their bit for the greater good, realising that by giving blood, lives are saved and there is nothing greater.
